Symptoms of Pre-Menopause

You will find that the symptoms of pre-menopause or perimenopause, as it is called by the medical profession, are the same as the symptoms you will find when you look up menopause. This can be very confusing. The reason is that the symptoms of menopause happen before menopause and do not keep occurring after menopause. Menopause is when you do have a period at all for over a year and your body has quit producing eggs. To find out if you are in fact in menopause your doctor can perform a hormone test. He will then let you know if you are still producing eggs. The symptoms may last for awhile after you stop having your menstrual cycle, but they usually do not last long. The symptoms usually occur in most women from two to six years before they stop menstruating.

The main menopause sign that most women will experience during pre-menopause is hot flashes and night sweats With night sweats you can wake up in the middle of the night soaking wet and will have to get up and change clothing to be comfortable. The flashes do not last very long but are very annoying to say the least. Hot flashes can occur during the day as well, which can be embarrassing if you are out shopping. These episodes can last for just a few seconds up to five minutes.

Mood swings are another annoying problem for women in pre-menopause. You may find your self feeling overly sad or even very excited without any reason at all. This can be confusing for you and for others around you. Irritability can also be a problem, but it is no worse than PMS. For many women in the menopause stage of their lives these swings can come on very abruptly and at no particular time. Anxiety and depression are also signs of menopause. These can be brought by many different things for each woman. When our hormones are changing it is very easy for our moods to take us on a ride of mood swings.

Fatigue or being overly tired is another pre-menopause complaint. This condition usually is associated with the night sweats or because of insomnia and restlessness that have also been reported by several women during pre-menopause.

Because of the hormonal changes that occur during pre-menopause your vagina lining becomes thinner. This can cause vagina dryness and pain during intercourse. Since your body is changing the other organs around this area are also affected. You may notice that you need to urinate more often as well. At this time you may also notice that your feet and hands are sometimes swollen, this is because your body is retaining water.

Because of the fatigue, the stress, the mood swings, and the vaginal dryness you may find that you are not as interested in intimate times with your spouse.

Remember though, these are signs and or symptoms of menopause and there is relief available for all these. Menopause will not stop you from enjoying your life like before, you just have to learn to adjust and find the right products to help with menopause relief. Also, not every woman has these symptoms, we are all different and some of these symptoms may not be a problem for you at all, where they may be a major problem for your best friend.
